Residents of a care home had to spend the night in a hotel after fire broke out there.

Eight people had to be led to safety by firefighters after the fire on Saturday afternoon.

One person was taken to hospital after breathing smoke, but has been released.

A fire service spokesperson said the fire was caused by an electrical fault to the charger which charges up the mobility scooters.

Three of the scooters were severely damaged along with the charging room, dining room and foyer.

There was also severe smoke damage to 14 more rooms.

Residents are expected to allowed back into the care home within five to seven days.
